Read an excerpt of his hotel review, and see why he gave this accommodation a rate of three out of five:
Our room was spacious and light, with a large comfy bed and terrific views, but, as estate agents love to trill, it was all ‘a little tired’. In fact it had more the vibe of a home for the elderly than romantic country house hotel… Downstairs, there are far too many dark leather armchairs, and tables too close to each other… When we were shown to our table, the dining room was in keeping with much of the rest of the house: bland and a touch claustrophobic. And so the quality of the food came as a welcome surprise… We slept well and then set off for a pre-breakfast walk, the sun rising over the valley, lighting up the Cotswold stone house to great effect.
